This past weekend, the India Association of Charlotte held its 28th annual Festival Of India. This year, the festival was a two-day event – the first day was in uptown Charlotte and the second day at Ballantyne’s Backyard.

On day one, Tryon Street in the middle of uptown was closed off and converted to accommodate well over 20,000 festivalgoers who came to take in the Indian culture. With more than 900 performers over the two days, attendees were treated to Indian music and dance. And with more than 50 merchants, people were able to sample a wide variety of Indian cuisine and shop.

The beautiful colors of the sari and the dhoti were everywhere. As was the intricate jewelry worn by the Indian people. Not only were the people at the festival adorned with outfits and jewelry, but all were found in the merchants’ tents where people could peruse and purchase ethnic items.

• Full installation and take down – since uptown was shut down for the duration of the event, all rentals were delivered and installed the morning of the event and disassembled and picked up at the end of the day.
